"Ladies with an attitude
Fellows that were in the mood
Don't just stand there, let's get to it
Strike a pose, there's nothing to it"
The Song
"Vogue" was the first single by American singer-songwriter Madonna from her soundtrack album I'm Breathless and was released on March 20, 1990.
"Vogue" was partly inspired by a dance performed in New York clubs, on the underground gay scene in which dancers used a series of complex hand gestures to imitate their favourite Hollywood stars, as well as the cover models on the magazine Vogue.
Filmed in black-and-white, the video of the song recalled the look of 1930s Hollywood films with the use of artwork by the Art Deco artist Tamara de Lempicka and an Art Deco set design. Some of the close-up poses recreated noted portraits of such stars as Marilyn Monroe, Veronica Lake and Marlene Dietrich. (Additionally, several stars of this era were name-checked in the song's lyrics.)
The Movie
![]() |
Clueless is a 1995 comedy film based on Emma by Jane Austen and set in a Beverly Hills high school. It stars Alicia Silverstone and Paul Rudd. The film tells the story of Cher Horowitz (Alicia Silverstone), a good-natured but superficial girl.
Cher is attractive, popular, and extremely rich. At a few months shy of sixteen, she has risen to the top of the high school social scene and is happy and self-assured in her fashion-obsessed world. She lives in a Beverly Hills mansion with her father; her mother is long dead, having succumbed to complications while undergoing liposuction.
The film was groundbreaking for a variety of reasons. Much of the teen slang used in the film was carried over into real-life usage and it is still a major part of American slang at present date.
The costumes used in the film were surprisingly trendsetting and soon became the new fashions of real life, as plaids, pastels, babydoll dresses and knee-high tights quickly became the new "thing" in young women's fashion at a time where grunge fashion was still popular. Technology-wise, new and smaller cell phones and pagers were never used so much in a film as they were in Clueless; at the time, they were items possessed by a minority of the population.
The Fashion Victims
They can be identified easily, all their clothing will have designer logos, they will be perfectly manicured, groomed and waxed and buffed. But instead of looking chic they will look "over the top" because they have no real taste or style. The mark of a true fashion victim is wearing every faddish trend that comes out. Here are some examples:

Paris Whitney Hilton (born February 17, 1981)
is an American celebutante, socialite, heiress,
television personality, actress, singer and model.
She is
undobtedly a fashion victim: she loves chandals,
XL sunglasses and mini bags.
She has appeared on the cover of magazines
like Elle and Vanity Fair.
She openly admits she loves going shopping
and going to the haridresser's.
She spends large sums of money on cosmetics
and she hates her large feet!
- The Olsen Twins

Mary-Kate Olsen and Ashley Fuller Olsen (born June 13, 1986) are American actresses, best known for playing the role of Michelle Tanner on the sitcom Full House. Both have appeared in television and films since infancy.
Mary-Kate and Ashley were popular figures in the preteen market during the late '90s and early 2000s. Their names became a cottage industry, with their likeness seen in clothes, books, fragrances, magazines, movies and posters. There were even Mary-Kate and Ashley fashion dolls made by Mattel from 2000 - 2005.
As the sisters have matured, there has been greater interest in their fashion choices, with the New York Times declaring Mary-Kate a fashion icon. Her style, sometimes referred to as "ashcan" or "Boho-chic" or bohemian-bourgeois, is similar to that of Bohemian chic popularised in Britain by Kate Moss and Sienna Miller. The look consists of oversized sunglasses, boots, loose sweaters, and flowing skirts.
Mary-Kate and Ashley have a clothing line in Wal-Mart stores across America for girls ages 4 - 14 as well as a beauty line called "Mary-Kate and Ashley: Real fashion for real girls".
My Point of View

Nowadays girls are victimized by fashion in two ways: first they appear in lingerie advertising campaigns when they are still very young, posing like adults. Second, they develop a compulsive shopping mania, buying only high-fashion brands clothes without taking into account if they are practical or if they really suit them.
